In order to learn to speak in Mandarin with a China accent, I'm currently watching films. And the first one is "Raise the Red Lantern" （《大红灯笼高高挂》）starring Gong Li. My sis recommended it to me and yeah, it's an old show, but a very good one. I ended up following the storyline instead. Lols. It's all about the destinies and fates which women of the past had to accept regardless of the background they come from. Because at the very end of it, they would all be converted by all the ancient rules and regulations. All of the past that they can hold on to are merely memories. They would resort to all sorts of methods to survive because that one man, one house is all that they really have. There's no spring for them, only the harsh climates. And ultimately, death would be the only way for them to end everything. Somehow someway this is similar to 《桃夭》, the issue on gender differences.
